Linguistics Labs Facilities

The UCSC Linguistics Labs are part of the Linguistics Research Center, a collection of scholars, research groups, and initiatives focused on research and education in linguistics.

Understanding the core mental mechanisms that enable language requires a variety of methodological approaches, including both the analytical work necessary to formulate hypothesis about linguistic form and function, and the empirical work to test and explore those models. The Linguistics Lab comprise several facilities housing eye tracking equipment, an ultrasound imagining machine, sound-attenuated booths for behavioral testing and recording, and computing resources for corpus work and development. These anchor the work of several research groups and collaborations.
